- Question: What is the shelf life of
Rust Encapsulator?
Answer: When unopened
the shelf life is approximately 1 year. After opened or used the shelf
life will be reduced to about 6 months. You can also open and close
the can as often as you like with no harm to the product, not like similar
products on the market.
- Question: What is the difference between
Rust Converter and Rust Encapsulator?
Answer: A Rust Converter
will convert the rust into an inert substance. Rust Encapsulator will
seal out moisture and outside elements to prevent rust from recurring.
For maximum protection it is best to use a rust converter first and
then Rust Encapsulator to seal it.
- Question: What type of preparation
is needed before Rust Encapsulator is Applied?
Answer: The surface
needs to be free of any loose rust, scale or loose paint - Cleaning
with a stiff wire brush should be sufficient. Remove all dust oil and
grease, or chemical contamination using Eastwood
Pre or Acetone. Make sure surface is completely dry.
- Question: How much Rust Encapsulator
will my project require?
Answer: Coverage of
the Rust Encapsulator is measured in square feet and is approximate.
One gallon covers 200sq. ft., quarts cover 50sq. ft., pints cover 25sq.
ft., and 16oz. Aerosols cover 10sq. ft.
- Question: Can Rust Encapsulator be
top coated with other Paints?
Answer: Rust Encapsulator
is compatible with most top coats. Make sure the Rust Encapsulator is
fully cured. Scuff the surface with 220 grit sand paper or scuff pad,
and make sure surface is free of any residue. Rust Encapsulator is an
enamel base paint. It is always recommended to do a test area to make
sure of compatibility, especially with Lacquer base paints.
- Question: How much heat can Rust Encapsulator
resist?
Answer: Rust Encapsulator
can withstand temperatures up to 400 degrees. You can use it on engines
and engine components except on exhaust manifolds were temperatures
will reach over 400 degrees.
- Question: What colors are available?
Answer: Rust Encapsulator
is currently available in four different colors, Red, Black, Silver,
and Gray. All the colors have a low sheen. It also comes in a Clear
to preserve that natural metal look as well as original factory paint
and crayon markings. Clear Rust Encapsulator produces a slightly milky,
clear satin finish.
- Question: Does Rust Encapsulator need
to go over rust or can it be applied to bare metal and painted surfaces?
Answer: Rust Encapsulator
can be applied over bare metal and painted surfaces. Scuff the surface
with 220 grit sand paper or scuff pad, and remove any residue with Eastwood's
Pre or acetone. Rust Encapsulator will not adhere well to aluminum.
- Question: Does Rust Encapsulator have
UV protection?
Answer: Yes, Rust Encapsulator
has UV protection added to it, so there is no need to top coat it.
